Wedding Planning Apps and Online Tools! Are they right for you?

Wedding planning apps and online tools can be helpful. Their purpose and usefulness also need to be considered if you plan to utilize the services of wedding designers, planners, or coordinators. Nothing replaces the personal touch and tailored approach like a real person, but apps can be very important in your planning process.

App 9

I group apps and online tools together as most of the information applies to both.

Do you like apps and online tools, and would these help in planning your wedding?

If you like apps, and electronic devices, wedding planning apps and online tools can be very helpful.  These will help you think of things you might otherwise have overlooked, stimulate ideas, and give you some assurance when asking yourself, now what did I forget?

App 8

A wedding app provides instant information so when you are out shopping, or sipping a coffee, you have what you need to remind you of what needs to be done, and when.

An app can give you instant access to record thoughts that come to mind.

Don’t count on just remembering details.

You need to write down those creative and practical ideas and an app is a great place to record and access such information.

Using wedding planning apps and online tools, while helpful, may not be the only resource you will need. Having someone to coordinate the events of the day is pretty much a necessity. If anything goes wrong you need someone, not you, to address and solve the issue. This should not fall to your parents, friends, and guests of the wedding.

You still should consider hiring someone, if only for a day!

Hire someone to coordinate what takes place on your wedding day. This person will be like an orchestra conductor who ensures that everything flows together in harmony.

App 11

Be sure to meet with the coordinator well in advance. Your appointed person will need to be oriented prior to the wedding day. Regular communication should take place to ensure that the coordinator is made aware of changes, small or large, and knows what to expect on the day of the wedding.

This, one-day coordinator, will be much less expensive than someone who coordinates the entire wedding process.

From simplicity to complexity

There is a wide spectrum of weddings from the simplest to the most extravagant. A more intimate wedding with very few participants in the wedding party and limited guests will require far less planning. It simplifies both the budget and managing the timing of each element of the wedding.

App 4

Many weddings will fall someplace in between the intimate and extravagant.

Your decision regarding what resources you need in terms of in-person or technology assistance will be driven by where your wedding falls on the spectrum of simplicity to complexity.

Choosing to use wedding planning apps and online tools is about what fits your needs, your budget, and your available time.

Peace of mind can mean a lot, and planning a wedding can, at times, steal a bit of that.

The simplicity or complexity issue also pertains to which online planner or app you select. Some will be intuitive and very easy to use. Some will be more complex. Complexity can mean many more useful features, but any feature is not useful unless you have a use for it. Select the tool that fits with the size and complexity of your wedding, and one that is easy to use.

Do you need wedding planning apps and online tools if you have a destination wedding

If you have a destination wedding at a resort, or natural setting, your need for wedding planning apps and online tools may still be useful, however, most destination venues will have their own resources. These resources will be familiar with all of the aspects that you will need to create your perfect day. If you are planning a destination wedding, consult with those onsite resources prior to purchasing an app or online tools.

Budgets and timelines

App 5

Budgets and timelines are the biggest considerations when planning your wedding.

No matter what elements of the wedding you are considering, such as the venue, invitations, guest lists, flowers, music, cars, carriages, and the reception, it all comes down to how and when, or in other words, money and timing.

If managed well, both of these elements can give you a great sense of confidence, well-being, and peace of mind.

Budgets and timelines are your friend.

Technology can help you develop and track both the budget and timeline. Using online tools and apps, as long as you keep them up to date with new information, will help you in this area. Of course, a spreadsheet can do the same if you are familiar with how to set up and use one. Spreadsheets will not automatically send reminders to you, so the app would have an advantage if this is one of the features of that tool.

App 8

Processes and activities that feed into the budget and timeline are all of those details that go into planning a wedding.

While apps are helpful, it takes a real live person to research options for almost everything.

Everything includes the following and so much more: selecting the officiant, choosing the wedding cake, catering for the rehearsal party and wedding reception, selecting the music and musicians, determining the venue, etc.

Using only wedding planning apps and online tools, and not another resource such as a wedding planner will necessitate you being the one who negotiates everything. This can either be fun if you like the challenge of finding a deal, or stressful if you dislike the push and pull of negotiating.

app 6

Working closely with your partner is also advantageous because you may have differing gifts and skills.

If one of you loves to negotiate, and the other has a penchant for detail, then you have a definite advantage.

The importance, as in most things, is clarity and communication. Planning your wedding can be a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your relationship.

You will be creating the day that you will both celebrate for years to come.
